East German Strichtarn Camo Summer Field Pants

These are genuine East German NVA Strichtarn summer field pants, issued to the Nationale Volksarmee and Grenztruppen border troops throughout the Cold War. Cut from a lightweight cotton-blend cloth in the unmistakable DDR rain-drop camouflage, they feature two slash side pockets, two large flapped cargo pockets, a button fly, adjustable ankle cuffs, and internal D-rings for suspenders. The partially elasticated waist gives a comfortable fit, while the period-correct grey stippled buttons confirm authentic DDR production. A solid pick for collectors, reenactors, and anyone who wants real Cold War surplus field trousers for warm-weather use.

Surprisingly Tough Pants for the Price

Picked these up mostly to have something i don't mind trashing on trail work and range days, and tbh they've exceeded expectations. The fabric is heavier than i expected for a 'summer' field pant moderately heavyweight cotton-poly blend that's held up to brush, kneeling on gravel, and a solid afternoon of firewood hauling without any tears or blown seams. The cargo pockets are roomy and the button closures stay shut. I will say the fit is... interesting the 'L' fits me at about a 34 waist but runs a little short in the inseam compared to American large. Not a dealbreaker but worth knowing. I'd recommend sizing up if you're between sizes. After a few months of use the seams are still solid and no button has popped.

    Great value for genuine surplus

I grabbed these for wrenching and yard stuff because i was tired of shredding jeans. Lightweight cotton blend but thicker than it looks in photos, breathable enough in July and the seat/knee areas feel reinforced like the better grade surplus. Wore them twice a week for a month already, machine washed cold every time and they still look almost new, no crazy pilling. Slash pockets plus the big flapped cargos hold a multitool and rags no problem. Compared to my Flecktarn field pants these run a bit more relaxed in the seat and the strichtarn pattern hides grease stains better imo. Adjustable cuffs are clutch when you're climbing around. Worth it for the price of authentic DDR gear.

Holds up to real work........hides dirt and grease......good pocket layout

I bought three pairs of these, dated 1966, 1967, and 1972, and they were in great shape for their age. One pair was missing a button on the cargo pocket, but since I had some replacement buttons, that was an easy fix. On another pair it was evident that an NVA soldier had some fun with a match, because the button at one of the cuffs was half melted, and the cuff tab was a bit singed, but I think that adds to the character. The material is soft, and true to the description, the styles really are different depending on when the pants were made. For example, on two of these, the front slash pockets had button closures, whereas one did not, and two of them had little key rings to hold the cuff buttons in place (I'm guessing this was a workaround for soldiers who didn't know how to sew a button). I had never seen that before. As an added bonus, it was fun figuring out the date and place of manufacture from the clear stamping.

Soft, lightweight, but sturdy material makes for an excellent summer pant

These are legit East German surplus pants and you can tell they were built to last. The strichtarn camo pattern is so cool looking, nothing else like it. Material is thick but still breathable enough for summer which suprised me. Shipped out super fast too, had them in like 4 days.

Just as described -- Fast shipping

Got these for my husband for his birthday because he's obsessed with military surplus stuff. He literally wore them the same day they arrived lol. He told me the material is lighter then he expected which he says is actually a good thing for summer. I don't know much about the technical side but he gave them two thumbs up and thats good enough for me.

Definately going to be getting him some more surplus from keepshooting!
