French Army Signal Lantern

French Army Box Lantern

This is a box-style signal lantern issued to the French Army, built to throw a beam and pass colored light signals from one compact metal case. Red and yellow filters slide over the face, so one lamp can give white light for work or a colored light for signaling and low-visibility use. It suits campers, preppers and anyone who wants a solid field light, and it is a genuine piece of French military kit for collectors and reenactors.

Features

• Polished Chrome Reflector — A large bowl reflector surrounds the bulb and gathers its light into a forward beam.
• Slide-In Color Filters — Red and yellow lenses slide into channels on the front of the lantern, changing the beam color in seconds.
• Red Filter For Night Use — Red light is the military choice after dark because it disturbs your night vision far less than white light.
• Olive Drab Metal Housing — The rectangular case is metal, finished in the OD green (olive drab) used on French Army equipment.
• Side-Mounted Switch — A green lever on the side of the case turns the lamp on and off.
• Hinged Opening Case — The housing swings open on a hinge for access to the battery compartment and internal wiring, with a seal running around the lid edge.
• Multiple Carry Points — A fold-out handle on the side, a wire loop at the base and a hook let you carry it, hang it or clip it in place.
• Issue Markings — A label inside the case carries French military markings that confirm its service origin.

Genuine French Issue

This lantern was made for the French Army, not for the civilian market, and it shows in the plain metal construction and simple controls. The flat-sided box shape stands upright on a table or the ground, and the filters stay in their channels until you slide them out. If you collect French military equipment or kit out a period impression, this is the original article rather than a lookalike.
