.223 / 5.56 Bore Cleaning Brush

A .223 / 5.56 bore cleaning brush for scrubbing powder residue and fouling out of rifle barrels. It is built on a twisted-wire spine with a long run of copper-toned bristles toward the tip and a wider band of silver bristles near the base. A brass-colored threaded shank screws onto a cleaning rod, so check that the thread matches yours. Because .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm NATO share a bore diameter, one brush serves rifles in either chambering. It is a practical replacement or spare for AR-15 owners and anyone cleaning a .22-calibre centerfire rifle after the range.

Description

5.56 Bore Brush

This brush scrubs powder residue and fouling out of .223 and 5.56 rifle barrels. It screws onto the end of a cleaning rod, and you push it through the bore after a range session, usually with a few drops of solvent on the bristles. It is a standard consumable for anyone who maintains an AR-15 or another rifle in this calibre, and it is worth keeping a spare in the cleaning kit.

Features

  • Sized For .223 / 5.56 — The .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm NATO share the same bore diameter, so this one brush covers rifles chambered in either.
  • Twisted-Wire Core — The bristles are clamped between tightly twisted strands of wire, the usual way cleaning brushes are built, so they stay put through repeated passes.
  • Copper-Toned Bristles — Metal bristles in a copper tone run along most of the brush and loosen carbon and fouling as they pass through the barrel.
  • Second Bristle Section — A wider band of silver-colored bristles near the base gives the brush a second, larger scrubbing diameter.
  • Brass Threaded Shank — A brass-colored threaded shank screws onto a cleaning rod or adapter, so check that the thread matches your rod before use.
  • Looped Wire Tip — The wire at the leading end is turned back into a rounded loop instead of a cut end.
  • Use With Bore Solvent — Wetting the bristles with solvent before each pass helps the brush lift fouling that dry brushing leaves behind.

Build And Fit

The brush has two bristle sections on a single twisted-wire spine: a long copper-toned section toward the tip and a shorter, wider silver section behind it. A brass-colored threaded shank at the base attaches it to your rod. Bristles wear down with use, so replace the brush once it starts to feel loose in the bore.

    First one failed

    Overall Rating

I'm very impressed by the customer service of Keep Shooting. The first brush I bought was a dud right out of the package. All the longer bristles fell right out in my hand. I had a replacement within days without need of returning anything. I feel like a valued customer and will continue shopping at this site.

you get what you pay for!

    Overall Rating

This little dandy was made in China, but seams to be built well enough. It gets the job done and that's what counts! The only negative is that the threads are a bit shallow.

What can you say about a brush? They are new and appear to be mil-spec-they are identical to the one that came with my rifle.Price is great.
