Takedown Pin Detent Spring
This is the small coil spring that keeps the rear takedown pin on an AR-15 lower receiver from sliding out on its own. It pushes a detent, a short pin that drops into a groove on the takedown pin, so the pin stays put until you press it out to open the rifle. These springs are easy to lose during a build and can weaken or kink over time, and a bad one lets the pin walk. United Defense makes this replacement for builders, armorers and anyone repairing a lower.

- Coil Compression Spring — Tightly wound coils, as shown in the photos, push outward when squeezed and keep steady pressure on the detent.
- Rear Takedown Pin Retention — The spring presses the detent into the takedown pin's groove so the pin holds its position while you shoot and handle the rifle.
- AR-15 Lower Receiver Part — It is made for the takedown pin detent channel in an AR-15 lower receiver.
- Sits Behind The End Plate — On a standard AR-15 the detent and spring ride in a channel at the rear of the lower, held in by the receiver end plate on the buffer tube.
- Plain Metal Finish — The spring has a bare grey metal finish with no coating, which is normal for an internal part that stays hidden once installed.
- Fixes A Loose Pin — If the takedown pin slides freely or drops out when the upper is opened, a fresh spring brings back the firm stop you expect.

Fit And Installation
To reach the spring, remove the buffer tube end plate, usually by loosening the castle nut that clamps it. The detent goes into its channel first, then the spring, and the end plate covers both when the castle nut is tightened again. Work slowly and keep a thumb over the channel, because the detent and spring are small and under tension.
