AR-15 Takedown Pin Detent

The takedown pin detent is the small pin that keeps your AR-15's rear takedown pin from sliding out on its own. A spring behind it pushes the detent into a groove on the takedown pin, so the pin stays put while you shoot and still pushes out when you want to separate the upper and lower receivers. This United Defense detent replaces one that was lost during a lower build or a field strip, or one that has worn down. Detents are tiny and easy to lose, so it is worth keeping a spare in the parts bin.

Fit And Installation

This detent fits standard AR-15 pattern lower receivers. The rear takedown detent and its spring go into a channel at the back of the lower, where the receiver end plate holds them in once the buffer tube is installed. That means the buffer tube has to come off to replace it. The photographs show the detent by itself, so order a detent spring as well if yours is missing or has weakened.
