Description
Austrian Issue M1 Helmet
This is an M1-pattern combat helmet issued to the Austrian Army, the Bundesheer, which adopted the M1 shape in the postwar decades. It has the familiar rounded dome and short flared brim, an olive drab finish, an internal web suspension and a webbing chinstrap. Collectors use it to fill out a Cold War European display, and reenactors and costume builders wear it because it is genuine government-issue kit, not a later copy.
Features
- M1-Pattern Shell — The rounded crown, slightly flared brim and short rim at the back follow the M1 profile used by the US and many allied armies.
- Olive Drab Finish — The shell is painted in OD green, the flat olive drab used on standard-issue military equipment.
- Internal Web Suspension — Woven webbing straps run from rivets around the inside of the rim to the crown, so the helmet rides on the straps rather than directly on your head.
- Central Crown Pad — A black pad gathers the suspension straps at the top and keeps an air gap between your scalp and the shell.
- Fitted Headband — A tan band circles the inside of the suspension and sets how the helmet sits on the brow.
- Leather Inner Strap — A brown leather strap is fitted inside the helmet alongside the webbing suspension.
- Adjustable Webbing Chinstrap — An OD webbing strap with a metal buckle hangs from swivel loops on each side of the shell and adjusts under the chin.
- Genuine Austrian Army Issue — Each helmet came from Austrian government stocks, which gives it provenance a reproduction cannot match.
Bundesheer Issue Pattern
Austria rebuilt its armed forces after the Second World War, and the M1 shape became its standard helmet pattern for decades. This example keeps its original issue fittings: the riveted web suspension, crown pad, headband and side-mounted webbing chinstrap. Fit adjusts through the chinstrap buckle, while the suspension sets how high the shell sits on your head. It is sold as a collector, display and reenactment piece and carries no modern protective rating.

No complaintsHave a somewhat large head, so was worried about whether it would fit. No complaints, perfect fit, in great shape for surplus wear. Glad I snagged the last or penultimate one in stock

Nice HelmetMine was obviously used but not abused too much. There are small dents on the pot but isnt visually noticeable only running your hand on it can you feel them. The liner was more wore than the pot. There are two pins that connect the leather to the liner that have tore through making the liner slip a little but its not too big of an issue. Only needed minor adjustment to fit my head.

GREAT AUSTRIAN VERSION OF THE USGI M1AMERICAN M1 HELMETS ARE GETTING RARE AND EXPENSIVE. MINE ARRIVED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION COMPETE WITH LINER AND STRAPS AND CLOSURES.FOR UNDER 30 BUCKS YOU CANT GO WRONG.

Outstanding ItemI received one of these for Christmas, and was rather happy with it! Fits my large head, and pays much homage to the original M1 Helmet (I've owned a few) and has some improvements which i greatly appreciate. Comes in good condition, with some minor surface discrepancies, but much better than I expected for this price! I recommend to all who want the look and feel of the original M1 without the busting the wallet.

As Advertised.Awesome additional to any Military Surplus or Helmet collection. Mine was in good shape for surplus and had black tae around the rim. I would guess this one may have been a recuits helmet? At least it makwe sfor a good story.
