Austrian Army M1 Helmet

The Austrian Army M1 Helmet is a genuine Bundesheer-issue steel combat helmet built on the iconic M1 pattern adopted across NATO during the Cold War. The stamped steel shell carries a factory olive drab finish and pairs with a removable plastic liner fitted with an Austrian-spec leather headband, canvas suspension, and adjustable chinstrap. Total weight runs about 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg), matching the heft of the original US M1 it was modeled on. A solid pick for militaria collectors, reenactors building a NATO or Cold War impression, and anyone who wants an authentic European-issue M1 clone.

Description

Features

  1. Genuine Austrian Bundesheer Issue — Authentic Cold War-era surplus helmet issued to the Austrian Federal Army from the late 1950s through the 1990s.
  2. M1-Pattern Steel Shell — Constructed from stamped steel in the classic M1 silhouette adopted across NATO and copied from the original US pattern.
  3. Olive Drab Finish — Factory OD green paint over the steel shell for a low-reflective, field-ready appearance.
  4. Removable Plastic Liner — Independent inner liner drops into the steel pot, letting you wear the liner alone for light duty or the full two-piece rig for protection.
  5. Leather Suspension System — Austrian-spec tongued leather headband and wide canvas suspension webbing provide a more tailored fit than the US one-size shell.
  6. Adjustable Chinstrap — Integrated chinstrap secures the helmet on the head and adjusts to a wide range of users.
  7. Approximate Weight 3.5 lbs — Shell and liner together come in around 1.6 kg, in line with original M1-pattern combat helmets.
  8. Made in Austria — Manufactured domestically by the Bundesheer's contracted suppliers for frontline service.
  9. Collector and Reenactor Ready — A correct, authentic alternative to US M1 helmets for Cold War, NATO, and post-WWII impressions.

    No complaints

Have a somewhat large head, so was worried about whether it would fit. No complaints, perfect fit, in great shape for surplus wear. Glad I snagged the last or penultimate one in stock

    Nice Helmet

    Overall Rating

Mine was obviously used but not abused too much. There are small dents on the pot but isnt visually noticeable only running your hand on it can you feel them. The liner was more wore than the pot. There are two pins that connect the leather to the liner that have tore through making the liner slip a little but its not too big of an issue. Only needed minor adjustment to fit my head.

    Outstanding Item

    Overall Rating

I received one of these for Christmas, and was rather happy with it! Fits my large head, and pays much homage to the original M1 Helmet (I've owned a few) and has some improvements which i greatly appreciate. Comes in good condition, with some minor surface discrepancies, but much better than I expected for this price! I recommend to all who want the look and feel of the original M1 without the busting the wallet.

Awesome additional to any Military Surplus or Helmet collection. Mine was in good shape for surplus and had black tae around the rim. I would guess this one may have been a recuits helmet? At least it makwe sfor a good story.
