The British Army MTP Camouflage Combat Jacket is a full featured jacket designed for soldiers in combat conditions. These jackets feature the multi-terrain pattern camouflage which is very similar to the multicam pattern that has been used by the US military.
These two aspects make this combat jacket a must-have for those who insist on nothing but the very best combat clothing.
This item is described as a "jacket" but it is really very similar to our U.S. BDU military shirts. I was looking for a light-weight shirt for use in warm weather with a camo pattern to suit the arid, canyon / brush country of western TX. This item may fit the bill!.
The shirt arrived in used condition with only mild color fading and very little evidence of wear (no rips or frays and all buttons and velcro closures in place). It had a distinct storage odor and needs to be washed if used for hunting. The material is light-weight, very soft and breathable. It should be ideal for use during warmer weather. I ordered a medium size (180/96) ( I am about 5'10 with 38" chest) and this was a good fit with extra room to wear over a t-shirt or thin, long-sleeve shirt. The length was about 3" below the waist for me (about mid-way over my back blue-jean pockets.
It has 2 very cavernous chest pockets that are closed by velcro. The pockets are each large enough to store a pair of light-weight gloves, a small, tactical LED flashlight, a balaclava or an iphone. One chest pocket has inserts for 3 pens. There are no lower hip pockets on this item and it can be tucked into your pants or left untucked over the pants. The upper arm pockets are fairly large and have a velcro exterior surface for attaching unit patches. The shirt unfortunately does not come with the blanking, velcro arm patches that have the British flag on them. The jacket is closed by a zipper and velcro overlay and should be fairly windproof. The collar can be worn folded down (like on U.S. BDU shirts) or turned upright and wrapped around the neck with velcro closure for wind/cold protection.
Overall, I feel that this item was a little over-priced (near $28) but with available coupons / discounts it is not all that unreasonable. The MTP camo is a good general-purpose pattern and when it is available in the U.S., it is priced a bit less than similar items in multicam. Will probably order another 1 or 2 when good discounts / coupons are available.
