Folding Field Shovel

The Gerber Entrenching Tool is a compact folding shovel for digging fire pits, clearing a tent site, trenching around a shelter, or freeing a stuck vehicle. Entrenching tools, often called E-tools, started as the soldier's personal digging tool, and this one keeps that tri-fold layout: open, it is a working shovel, and folded, it packs down small. It suits campers, hunters, overlanders and anyone building a vehicle or bug-out kit.

Features

• Tri-Fold Design — The handle and blade both hinge back along the shaft, so the tool folds into a flat package about the size of the blade.
• Threaded Locking Collar — A ribbed collar screws down over the joint to hold the tool rigid while you dig, then backs off to release it for folding.
• Toothed Blade Pivot — The blade hinges on a notched joint at the base of the shaft, and the collar locks it in position.
• Serrated Blade Edge — One side of the blade carries a row of teeth for sawing through roots and packed ground.

Design and Build

Gerber built this E-tool around the folding pattern military users have relied on for decades, with one locking collar controlling the joint. Folded, the D-handle wraps around the shaft and collar and sits on top of the blade, which makes it easy to store in a pack, behind a truck seat or in a trunk organizer. The serrated side of the blade means you have one tool for cutting roots and moving dirt.
