Global needle is the real deal, works in both hemispheresMost cheap baseplate compasses have a needle balanced for the northern hemisphere only take em south of the equator and the needle drags on the bottom of the capsule and gives you garbage readings. The TruArc Global Needle in this Brunton solves that problem completely. Took it on a hunting trip down to Argentina last year for red stag and the needle settled clean and gave accurate bearings the whole time, no tilt no drag. The rare earth magnets settle the needle fast which matters when your moving through terrain and need a quick bearing check. The tool-free declination adjustment is a huge upgrade over compasses that require a tiny screwdriver you always lose just rotate the dial by hand and your dialed in for your area. The 2 degree resolution is fine enough for serious land nav work without being so cluttered you cant read it in low light. Made in Wyoming which I appreciate. At 1.3 oz it disappears in a chest pocket until I need it.
