Esbit
The Original Solid-Fuel Stove Since 1936
Esbit invented the solid-fuel pocket stove in 1936, and the design has barely changed since — because it works. At Keep Shooting we carry the German-made classics: the folding pocket stoves that have been NATO-issue for generations, plus the hexamine fuel cubes that power them. Light a tablet, fold out the stand, and you have a smokeless flame anywhere — trail, bug-out bag, or back porch.
About Esbit
Esbit makes the original solid-fuel camp-cooking system, and at Keep Shooting we carry the full picture — three folding pocket stoves and two packs of the hexamine fuel cubes that run them. Compact, smokeless, and proven over nearly a century.
A 1936 Invention That Never Needed Improving
In 1936, in Hamburg, Germany, Erich Schumm patented a tablet of compressed hexamine that burned hot, clean, and smokeless — and built a tiny folding metal stand to cook over it. The name Esbit comes from his initials plus “Brennstoff in Tablettform” (fuel in tablet form). The little stove was adopted as standard issue by German forces in World War II, prized because its smokeless flame wouldn’t give away a position, and it has been carried by soldiers, hikers, and preppers ever since. The remarkable part is how little it has changed: the folding stove and hexamine tablet you buy today are essentially the same simple, reliable design Schumm drew up almost ninety years ago.
Stoves & Fuel
The Folding Pocket Stove is the icon — galvanized steel, two cooking grades, NATO-issued design, and it folds flat around six fuel tablets. The Large Pocket Stove is the same idea scaled up, with a three-position design, integrated fuel storage, and a dozen cubes to get started, while the ultra-cheap Emergency Stove is sized to tuck into a survival tin and is reusable up to fifteen times. Feed any of them with Esbit solid fuel cubes: the 14-gram cubes (made in Germany) burn about twelve minutes at 1,300°F, and the smaller 4-gram cubes give a quick five-minute, 1,400°F burn — both smokeless, waterproof, and good for a decade-plus on the shelf. The tablets double as excellent fire starters, too.
Round Out Your Cook Kit
An Esbit stove is the start of a cook kit, not the whole of it. Set a mess kit on top, fill a canteen, and pull the rest from our field gear and camping selections. A stove and fuel also belong in every bug-out bag right next to a first-aid kit. For more field-tested survival and outdoor gear, browse BCB International, Mil-Tec, and Rothco. Every Esbit order ships from Keep Shooting with fast handling and our satisfaction guarantee.
