Description

Folding Solid Fuel Stove

The Esbit Large Pocket Stove is a folding metal stand that holds a pot, cup or pan over a burning solid fuel tablet. It runs on Esbit's compressed fuel cubes, which light easily and need no pressurized canister, hose or pump. This set comes with 12 tablets, so you can start cooking out of the box. Hikers, campers and anyone building a bug-out or vehicle kit carry it because it packs small, has no moving parts to fail and stores its own fuel.

Features

  • Includes 12 Fuel Tablets — The kit ships with 12 Esbit solid fuel tablets of 14 g (0.5 oz) each, 168 g in total, in waterproof packaging.
  • Solid Fuel Design — Solid fuel is a dry, compressed tablet that burns without liquid or gas, so nothing can leak or spill in your pack.
  • Around 12 Minutes Per Tablet — Esbit rates one 14 g tablet at roughly 12 minutes of burn time, depending on starting temperature and conditions.
  • Boils 500 ml in About 7 Minutes — One tablet brings about 17 fl oz (500 ml) of water to a boil in around 7 minutes under typical conditions.
  • Fold-Out Side Panels — The two side panels swing out and up to form pot supports, with notched top edges that cradle the cookware.
  • Fuel Stores Inside — The box of tablets fits inside the folded stove, so stove and fuel travel as one compact block.
  • Works With Cups, Pots and Pans — The open stand takes a mug, a cook pot or a small frying pan; cookware is not included.
  • Embossed Instructions — Setup diagrams are pressed into the metal itself, so the directions cannot get lost or wear away like a paper insert.

Size, Weight and Fuel

Folded, the stove measures about 5.2 x 3.8 x 1.4 in (13.2 x 9.6 x 3.6 cm), small enough for a jacket pocket, glove box or pack lid. It weighs around 12.7 oz (360 g) with the fuel tablets loaded inside. Esbit has made this style of pocket stove and fuel since 1936, and the tablets are sold separately when you need to restock.

Bought this to replace my old propane camp stove that rusted out completely after one too many wet seasons in the garage. Well, I dragged this little thing out on a four-day camping trip last month and I'll tell you it held up better than I expected for something that weighs under a pound. The 12 fuel cubes it came with got me through boiling water for coffee and heating up soup every single morning without running out, which almost became a problem on day three when I fumbled one into the dirt. Only gripe is the stove wobbles just slightly if your pot isn't centered, and the cubes leave a bit of a waxy residue on the bottom of my cookpot that takes some scrubbing. But at my age I've learned not to expect everything to be fuss-free, and this little folder does what it promises every time?!

lightweight at under a pound, easy to pack
12 cubes lasted the whole trip with some to spare

wobbles a bit with an uneven pot
fuel cubes leave waxy residue on cookware

Used this for a quick overnight camping trip and it did exactly what I needed it to do. The cubes light up pretty easy with one match. Doesn't leave a huge mess in my pack either. Would buy again!

I’ve used this stove on a few trips and it’s been solid. It’s simple to set up and the fuel cubes work well. I like that it doesn’t need a big setup like other stoves. The only issue is that it can be a little messy when you’re cooking. Also, it doesn’t work well in strong winds.

    Doesn’t work well in wind
