US M7 Bayonet

The M7 is the bayonet the US Army introduced in 1964 for the M16 rifle, and it served through the Vietnam War until the M9 began replacing it in 1985. It mounts to the standard bayonet lug, the small stud under the barrel that the bayonet's handle latches onto, found on the M16, the M4 carbine and many other rifles and combat shotguns. The M7 was built to a single government specification under NSN 1095-00-017-9701, the National Stock Number the military uses to catalogue an item. Several US contractors produced it over its service life, including Colt and Ontario Knife Company, so maker markings vary from one bayonet to the next. Because it was made to the military's own standard, an issued M7 is the authentic article for a period rifle or display, with the correct blade steel, finish and locking hardware.
