M14 Field Maintenance Tool

This is the US Army combination tool issued with the M14 rifle. It is a single steel multi-tool that handles the basic jobs of field stripping and routine maintenance. With it you can work the gas cylinder plug, adjust the rear sight knobs, drive the buttplate screws and fit a cleaning rod. M14 and M1A owners carry it because it puts the rifle's tool kit in one piece that stores inside the stock.

Features

• Gas Cylinder Plug Wrench — Tightens or loosens the gas cylinder plug, the threaded cap at the front of the gas system that has to come off for cleaning.
• Rear Sight Knob Adjustment — Tightens or loosens the rear sight knobs so you can set and secure your windage and elevation.
• Buttplate Screwdriver — The blade at one end removes and installs the buttplate screws.
• Sliding Crossbar Handle — A steel pin slides out through the body to give you a T-shaped grip and extra leverage.
• Cleaning Rod T-Handle — Threads onto the sectional cleaning rod and turns it into a T-handle for running patches and brushes down the bore.
• Buttstock Storage — Sized to fit in the M14 buttstock, so it stays with the rifle and out of your pack.
• Parkerized Steel — Made from steel with a parkerized finish, a phosphate coating the military uses to resist corrosion and hold oil.
• Stamped Part Number — Marked COMBINATION TOOL and 7790769 on the body, the government part number for this tool.
• M14 And M1A Compatible — Works on issue M14 rifles and on M1A rifles built to the same pattern.

Original USGI Specification

USGI means US Government Issue: the tool was made for the Army to its own specification rather than as an aftermarket copy. The perforated steel body, sliding crossbar and screwdriver tip match the pattern supplied with the M14. That matters to collectors finishing a correct rifle kit, and to shooters who want the tool the rifle was designed around.
