Description
Original TDI Knife
The Ka-Bar TDI is a compact fixed blade built as a last-option defensive tool for close quarters, such as a struggle over your firearm when you can't reach for anything else. John Benner of the Tactical Defense Institute (TDI) designed it for law enforcement and military personnel. The handle sits at a sharp angle to the blade, so the knife comes out of a belt sheath ready to use with a natural punching motion instead of an awkward wrist turn. This version has a black blade, a coyote brown handle and a matching sheath.
Features
- 2.31-Inch Blade — A short blade on a 5.625-inch overall length keeps the knife small enough to carry on the belt every day.
- AUS8A Stainless Steel — The blade is cut from AUS8A, a stainless steel that resists rust and is easy to bring back to a working edge.
- 57-59 Rockwell Hardness — Rockwell is the standard scale for steel hardness, and this range balances edge retention against the toughness to avoid chipping.
- Partially Serrated Edge — Saw-like teeth on part of the edge bite into rope, webbing and clothing, while the plain section handles clean slicing cuts.
- Black Blade Finish — A dark coating cuts down glare and shows the etched Ka-Bar and TDI markings in contrast.
- Angled Zytel Handle — Zytel is a tough nylon polymer, and the textured coyote brown scales give a secure grip with gloves on or in wet conditions.
- Deep Finger Choil — A pronounced notch where the blade meets the handle locks your index finger in place and keeps your hand off the edge.
- Hard Molded Sheath — The coyote brown plastic sheath holds the knife firmly and comes with a metal belt clip for fast mounting.
- Fits Belts To 1.75 Inches — The clip takes belts up to 1.75 inches wide, which covers most duty, gun and everyday belts.
Blade, Handle And Sheath
Weight is listed at 5.6 ounces. The full blade-and-handle layout keeps the edge in line with your forearm when you strike. Visible screws hold the Zytel scales to the steel, and the sheath retains the knife by friction, so you can carry it on the strong side or behind a holster where your support hand can reach it. If you want a dedicated retention and backup blade instead of a general utility knife, this is the pattern Ka-Bar built for that job.
