About Smith & Wesson Magazines at Keep Shooting
Keep Shooting carries the complete Smith & Wesson pistol-magazine catalog spanning the company's 170-year semi-automatic lineup — from Bill Ruger-contemporary 1970s-80s classic semi-autos (Model 59, Model 22A target pistol, Bodyguard 380 micro-compact) through the modern polymer-era M&P service pistol family introduced 2005 and its slim single-stack Shield variant from 2012. The M&P family is by far the dominant subcategory — over 20 of the catalog's SKUs — and has its own dedicated subcategory at M&P Magazines for detailed platform coverage including the M&P Shield, M&P15-22 rimfire AR trainer, and M&P10 AR-10 rifle.
Smith & Wesson — 170 years of American firearms manufacturing. Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson founded Smith & Wesson in 1852 in Springfield, Massachusetts — making S&W one of the oldest continuously-operating firearms manufacturers in the United States. For most of the company's history, S&W was primarily a revolver manufacturer — the Model 10 K-frame .38 Special that equipped American police from the 1950s through the 1980s, the Model 29 .44 Magnum (Dirty Harry's revolver), the J-frame snub-nose five-shot .38 Special family that dominated the American concealed-carry market. The revolver side of S&W's business remains significant today but falls outside the scope of a magazine catalog — revolvers use speedloaders (see the Magazine Loaders category for HKS speedloaders compatible with S&W J-frame revolvers). The semi-auto pistol side of S&W's business is what this magazine catalog serves.
The classic S&W semi-autos — 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-generation. Smith & Wesson entered the semi-automatic pistol market in 1954 with the Model 39 — the first American-designed double-action automatic pistol, chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, designed to compete with the European Browning and Walther pistols that were establishing the double-action-semi-auto category. The Model 39 was followed by the double-stack Model 59 in 1971 — S&W's 14-round 9mm double-stack that competed with the Browning Hi-Power and the 1970s-era European high-capacity 9mms. The Model 59 and its successors (Model 459, 469, 659, 669, 910, 915, 1076) ran through three generations of S&W semi-auto design before the M&P family replaced them. Our factory S&W Model 59 magazine is the original 14-round capacity, and the Model 69 magazine fits the corresponding 3rd-generation variant — both original-production capacity replacement for what are now 30-to-50-year-old pistols still in wide civilian ownership.
Model 22A / 22S — the target rimfire. Smith & Wesson's Model 22A (polymer-frame) and Model 22S (stainless-frame) .22 LR target pistols were produced from 1997 through approximately 2013 — inexpensive training and target pistols that filled the S&W rimfire lineup before the M&P22 replaced them. The 22A / 22S were commercially successful but were discontinued when S&W consolidated rimfire production under the M&P22 branding in the 2010s. Many 22A / 22S pistols remain in civilian ownership, and our factory S&W Model 22A / 22S magazine is the original-capacity replacement for continued operation of these discontinued platforms.
Bodyguard 380 — the pre-Shield micro-compact. The S&W Bodyguard 380 (introduced 2010) was Smith & Wesson's entry into the post-2008 wave of ultra-compact .380 ACP pocket pistols — polymer- framed, single-stack, integrated laser sight (a distinctive Bodyguard feature), and designed specifically for deep concealment carry. The Bodyguard 380 predates the 2012 M&P Shield line and covered the .380 concealed-carry market before the Shield family added its .380 EZ variant. Our factory Bodyguard 380 magazine is the 6-round standard capacity — and Bodyguard 380 magazines are NOT interchangeable with M&P Shield .380 (Shield EZ) magazines despite both being S&W .380 single-stack pistols from similar eras.
The M&P family — modern polymer-era dominance. In 2005 Smith & Wesson released the M&P (Military & Police) polymer striker-fired service pistol — a ground-up design aimed at the Glock-dominated American law-enforcement duty-pistol market that had defined the 1990s and early 2000s. The M&P and its slim single-stack Shield variant (released 2012) became the dominant S&W semi-auto pistol lineup and together account for over 20 of the SKUs in this catalog. The full M&P line, including the M&P9, M&P40, and M&P45 full-size and Compact variants; the Shield single-stack carry pistols in 9mm, .40, .45, and .380; the M&P22 rimfire trainer; the M&P15-22 rimfire AR-pattern carbine; and the M&P10 AR-10 rifle platform, is detailed on our dedicated M&P Magazines subcategory — the primary destination for M&P customers.
Important cross-compatibility warnings. S&W's semi-auto lineup crosses five decades and multiple completely different pistol platforms, and magazines are strictly platform-specific: Model 59 / 69 / 3rd-gen magazines do NOT fit any modern M&P or Shield — these are completely different frame generations separated by 30 years of design evolution. Bodyguard 380 magazines do NOT fit M&P Shield .380 (Shield EZ) despite both being S&W .380 single-stacks — different frames, different magazine-well dimensions. Model 22A / 22S rimfire magazines do NOT fit the M&P22 — different pistol families, different magazine patterns. M&P pistol magazines do NOT fit the M&P15-22 carbine — different platform entirely. M&P Shield magazines do NOT fit standard full- size M&P pistols — single-stack vs. double-stack frame widths. Before ordering any S&W magazine, verify your specific pistol model, generation, and caliber — the cross-generational naming similarities (Model 22A vs. M&P22 vs. M&P15-22 are three completely different products) create frequent customer confusion.
Where to go from here. For the full M&P platform lineup — service pistols, Shield concealed-carry, M&P15-22 rimfire trainer, M&P10 AR-10, and M&P22 — see our M&P Magazines subcategory, which accounts for the large majority of S&W magazine SKUs. For the classic 1970s-80s 3rd-generation Model 59 / Model 69 semi-autos, Model 22A / 22S rimfire target pistols, and Bodyguard 380 micro-compact, browse this parent category. For S&W revolvers, our Magazine Loaders category covers HKS speedloaders compatible with J-frame .38 Special / .357 Magnum revolvers.
