Issued Assault Pack
The MOLLE II Assault Pack is the US Army's own patrol-sized backpack, built to carry a soldier's water, ammunition and essentials for a day or more away from the main ruck. This one is in the UCP digital pattern of the ACU era and carries a stenciled US marking on the front pocket. It suits hikers, preppers and range shooters who want a tough daypack, and collectors and reenactors who want the genuine article.
Features
- 1000D Cordura Nylon — The shell uses 1000-denier Cordura, a heavy, tightly woven nylon that stands up to abrasion from rock, brush and vehicle floors.
- About 2,350 Cubic Inches — Total storage is roughly 2,350 cubic inches, with about 1,525 in the main compartment and about 825 in the front pocket.
- PALS/MOLLE Webbing — Rows of nylon loops on the front, sides and shoulder straps let you attach compatible pouches wherever you want them.
- Buckled Front Pocket — A large flap pocket with a drawcord and buckle closure is sized for a six-magazine bandoleer or an M40 protective mask.
- Side Compression Straps — Quick-release buckled straps on each side cinch the load tight so it does not shift as you move.
- Quick-Release Shoulder Straps — The adjustable shoulder straps can be released fast when you need to drop the pack.
- Foam Back Panel — A foam support panel sits between your back and the load to spread pressure and keep hard items from digging in.
- Antenna And Tube Port — A dedicated slot lets a radio antenna or hydration drink tube pass out of the pack.
- Drain Eyelets — Metal eyelets in the zippered compartments let water run out instead of pooling.
- Rucksack Compatible — The pack can be worn on its own or attached to the MOLLE II Large Rucksack as part of the full Army load system.
Built To Army Spec
MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, the Army's system for building a loadout from interchangeable pouches and packs. This assault pack was issued to US Army personnel as part of that system, with reinforced stitching, heavy-duty zippers and Fastex buckles throughout. Because it is issued kit rather than a commercial copy, any standard MOLLE pouch you already own will mount to it.

The Real DealPulled this out of the box and the first thing I did was flip it over and check the label NSN 8465-01-524-5250, Made in USA, DLA contract stamp, exactly what it should say. Ran the MOLLE II assault pack on my IBA rig from about '06 through two rotations and these things just don't quit. The 500D Cordura on the genuine issue packs is noticeably heavier and more abrasion-resistant than the knockoff versions floating around you can tell the difference the second you grab the top carry handle, it's thick nylon with proper bar-tack stitching at every stress point. Main compartment runs about 1,525 cubic inches which is tight for a full three-day load but totally workable for a patrol day kit, radio, and a couple MREs. The buckles on the shoulder harness snapped clean and tight, no wobble. Only gripe is what I always gripe about with surplus: the foam stiffener was missing on mine Army-Navy Outdoors and a couple other surplus houses specifically warn about this, so I wasn't shocked, just annoying. Way better than a Condor 3-day in terms of actual construction and the PALS rows on the exterior front pocket thread properly with standard pouches I run an IFAK and a dump pouch off mine now and they sit solid.

Great buyI wanted to buy a high quality backpack for hiking and carrying extra things with me on the passenger seat of my motorcycle. This MOLLE II Assault Pack worked out perfectly for me. Not too large as to make it heavy to carry and it fits my passenger seat on the motorcycle. It was easy to strap down to the seat with all the straps and loopholes that are sewn on the backpack. It has a thin plastic and foam insert that rests on your back to make it more comfortable to wear and to keep the inner part of the backpack its shape. It’s in great shape. No worn out areas or rips/tears. I ran it through the gentle cycle of the washing machine a few times. Let it air dry and it was ready to use. The price was very reasonable for such a high quality product.
