5ive Star Gear is the tactical and field-gear sister brand to Tru-Spec, both part of a company with seven decades in the military-supply business. The roots go back to 1950, when Jack Zaglin founded the Atlanta Army Navy Supply Company — later Atlanco — in Marietta, Georgia, as a distributor of military surplus. Over the following decades the company moved from reselling surplus to manufacturing its own gear, launching the Tru-Spec tactical-uniform brand in the 1990s and adding 5ive Star Gear around 2010 as a companion line to push beyond apparel into broader tactical and outdoor equipment. In May 2024 both brands were acquired by Tru-Spec Global LLC and relocated to Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
