FN FAL Armorer's Bench Mat

The FN FAL TekMat is a 12 x 36 inch bench mat for cleaning, detail stripping and reassembling the FAL. It gives the rifle a padded surface that keeps the finish off a hard bench, and it puts an exploded parts diagram in front of you while you work. If a spring or pin comes out and you can't remember where it goes, the number on the drawing tells you.

Features

• Exploded FN FAL Schematic — An exploded view shows each component pulled apart in line with where it sits, so you can see how the receiver, gas system, trigger group and stock go back together.
• Numbered Parts List — Callouts on the drawing match a printed list of 163 named parts, from the rear sight to the rear sight adjusting screw.
• Rifle History And Specifications — A panel lists the designers (Dieudonné Saive and Ernest Vervier), Belgian origin, Fabrique Nationale as maker, the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, the gas-operated tilting breechblock action and the rate of fire.
• 12 x 36 Inch Work Area — At 12 x 36 in (30.5 x 91.4 cm), the mat is long enough to lay out a full-length FAL with room for the stripped parts beside it.
• Thermoplastic Fiber Surface — The top layer is a fiber fabric that cushions steel and wood and helps protect the rifle's finish from scratches and chips.
• Dye Sublimation Printing — The graphics are printed by dye sublimation, where the ink is heat-set into the fibers instead of sitting on top, so the diagram holds up to cleaning.
• Non-Skid Vulcanized Rubber Base — A 1/8 in (about 3 mm) layer of vulcanized rubber, meaning rubber cured with heat for toughness, grips the bench and keeps the mat from sliding.
• Water And Oil Resistant — The mat stands up to solvent, oil and water, and you can wash it when it gets dirty.
• Rolls For Storage — It rolls up for storage in a drawer, range bag or gun case.

How The Mat Is Built

The thermoplastic fiber top is bonded directly to a 1/8 inch vulcanized rubber substrate, so the two layers stay joined without a separate glue line. The mat is black with white line art and gray text panels, which keeps the small part numbers readable under shop lighting. The diagram and parts list are specific to the FN FAL pattern rifle.
