None of that cheap import crap!!Ive been running FALs for going on 15 years now and the magazine situation has been... rough, to put it mildly. Surplus mags are drying up, the DSA steel mags were honestly junk (feed lips were inconsistent on 2 out of 3 I bought), and the DSA polymer mags just don't have the right feel on a classic battle rifle imo. So when I saw United Defense was doing new-production steel metric mags for under $35 I grabbed four of them. Build quality is solid steel body, steel follower, steel spring, witness holes on the side so you can do a quick round count without dropping the mag. The parkerized finish is even and uniform across all four, which is more than I can say for some surplus Israeli mags I've gotten from PSA. Feed lips are cleanly machined and consistent mag to mag. One minor gripe: the first mag I inserted didn't give me that satisfying "click" when I rocked it it had to reseat it once. After that it was fine every time. Ran 80 rounds of Federal American Eagle 149gr through two of the mags with zero malfunctions. They also lock up tight with no wobble in my DSA SA58 receiver.
Under $35 is a steal compared to surplus prices
Initial insertion didn't click on one mag...needed a re-seat

Finally!I've got a safe full of original FN, Austrian, and Israeli steel mags that I baby because they're getting harder to replace. When I saw these United Defense mags hit the market I was skeptical - we've all been burned by DSA's 'improved' feed lips that messed with 70-year-old geometry that didn't need fixing. Took a chance on three of these and honestly I'm impressed. The witness holes are properly positioned, the parkerizing is a shade grayer than my Steyr originals (which actually helps me keep them sorted), and the follower engages the bolt hold-open every single time. These feed exactly like my factory milsurp mags - no wobble, no tilting, no brass drag marks on the feed lips. At under $35 vs the $50-90 people want for decent surplus these are a no-brainer. Got four more on order.
Feed lip geometry matches milspec perfectly
Bolt hold-open works every time
Parkerizing looks authentic and wears naturally -
Solid metric pattern magsPicked up a few of these to feed my StG58 build and they drop free and lock up tight. Ran about 200 rounds across them with no issues, no failures to feed at all. For the price you cant beat metric steel mags that actually work right.
Drop free reliable
Good price for steel magsFinish had a couple scuffs out of the box

Ordered four, all flawlessPicked up four of these for my DSA SA58 and they have been absolutely flawless so far. Dropped right in with zero fussing around, rocked and locked on the first try every single time, which honestly surprised me cause FAL mag fitment can be hit or miss with aftermarket stuff. The witness holes on the side are super handy at the range so I can see how many rounds I got left without having to drop the mag. Zero feeding issues, seats tight with no play in the receiver. Gonna order a couple more honestly.
Seats tight with zero play in the receiver
Zero feeding issues across four mags
Witness holes are a nice practical touchNothing really

Correct look and functionActually bought this because my DSA SA58 only came with two mags and original Austrian surplus is getting harder to find every year that doesn't have beat to death feed lips. This 20-rounder dropped in clean, locked into the mag well with that positive click, and the bolt-hold-open follower engaged the bolt stop on the last round just like my factory FN mags. The steel follower doesn't tilt or hang up when I top it off to a full 20 of .308. Then I discovered its also perfect for: keeping my range bag organized because the stamped steel body holds its shape and won't crush my snap caps, as a reference when I'm checking feed lip spacing on my older surplus mags that I'm not sure about, propping the tailgate gear from sliding in my truck bed, and as a teaching weight when I'm showing new shooters proper FAL reload technique without risking my good Austrian mags on the concrete. Construction is legit all steel. Mine has proper manganese phosphate parkerizing that matches the matte military finish on my other mags, the witness holes line up accurate so I can count rounds at a glance, and the drain cutouts mean no moisture trapped after wet range days. The metric pattern designation scares some inch-pattern guys off but if you run a DSA or FN this is just a really good 20-round mag.
Genuine 20-round capacity matches original FAL spec exactly
Bolt-hold-open follower engages every time like factory FNParkerizing is slightly grayer than my Austrian originals so I can tell them apart
Floorplate is tight to remove for cleaning needed a punch the first time
