This is Springfield Armory's factory 5-round magazine for the M1A, the company's semi-automatic civilian version of the M14 service rifle. It holds .308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm NATO and sits much shorter under the rifle than a standard 10- or 20-round magazine. That makes it a good choice for hunting where capacity limits apply, for shooting off a bench or from prone without the magazine hitting the ground, and for anyone who wants a slimmer profile on the rifle.

Fit and Construction
