The North American Rescue Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) is the standard-issue tourniquet of the United States military and the most widely deployed tourniquet in law enforcement, EMS, and civilian Stop the Bleed programs across the country. Kaolin works by activating Factor XII in the clotting cascade, which triggers the intrinsic clotting pathway without generating heat (unlike earlier-generation hemostatic agents that used exothermic reactions). The 4-foot roll provides enough gauze to tightly pack a deep wound cavity; the 2-foot roll is sized for IFAK-compatible packaging where space is at a premium.
